Get Street Fighter NFTs on the WAX Network

TL;DR- Street Fighter NFTs were released in mid-2021 on the WAX (World Asset Exchange) blockchain/platform. The cards come in packs of 10, and can combine in cool ways to make new assets that are more rare. Supply is deflationary. Unfortunately the cards don’t have any gameplay value.

For how to buy, read this Medium article to get your WAX wallet set up and buy some SF NFTs. If you’d like to invest the WAX token because you think they’re landing some awesome NFT projects, set up an account on KuCoin and get it funded.

The WAX Token

The in-game item market is huge- it’s expected to surpass $200 billion/year by 2025. For comparison, that’s how much the entire Samsung corporation makes in a year. WAX is a digital marketplace for many of these items. Where does the WAX token come into play? Much the same way the OMI token is currency to buy collectibles on the OMI network, the WAX token is the native currency for the WAX digital marketplace. WAX’s blockchain is backwards compatible with crypto behemoth EOS. Think of the WAX token as Robux on the Roblox platform, but with even more applications.

If you’re a vendor or a game developer you can set up your own marketplace on the WAX network. WAX has tools available to the public to help you do this. Why use WAX for a game item marketplace over legacy game item marketplaces? Here are a few reasons:

  • In-game items are often stolen. Blockchain makes this impossible.
  • Users that pay fiat currency in legacy game marketplaces are charged Paypal fees or other payment processing fees
  • There are several in-game item marketplaces all of the place. Operating on the WAX blockchain would make each marketplace interoperable with the others.
  • Game developers lose money on black market item exchanges because they don’t get a cut. WAX could solve this.
  • You’ll be able to resell items you’ve used in the game to other users and possibly make money on your items

Token supply

WAX’s total supply will be 3.5 billion, with only 1.5 billion of that currently in circulation. WAX like most tokens is inflationary, at a set rate of 5% annual inflation. WAX is a proof-of-stake project, so there are staking rewards being issued. Currently nearly 85% of the total WAX token supply is staked. This means investors and holders are confident in the token and the WAX network’s adoption.

The Street Fighter franchise

Street Fighter originally debuted as an arcade game in Japan in the late 1980s. In the 1990s Street Fighter released Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III, and created partnerships with Nintendo, Sony, and PC gaming firms to spread releases to different systems.

During this console gaming boom, Street Fighter gained worldwide success. Today, Street Fighter is still one of Capcom’s highest grossing franchises, second to only Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.

From an NFT investing standpoint, it’s always good to look at how much ‘clout’ a brand has. It it’s a strong and well known brand, the NFT could become extremely valuable. For high-value NFT brands, think NFTs with a famous founding team (like Gary Vaynerchuk’s VeeKids), a high profile athlete (like Auston Matthew’s or Alex Ovechkin’s NHL NFTS), or a killer brand (like Marvel NFTs of Spiderman on VeVe).

The World Asset Exchange (WAX)

WAX bills itself as the most proven and eco-friendly blockchain for NFTs. The asset exchange has over 400,000 daily active users, hosts over 30,000 decentralized applications (dApps), and has 8 million wallets that perform 15 million transactions per day.

If you’re holding an NFT and want to sell it for a profit, liquidity is important. Basically you want to see that there’s a lot of buying and selling activity. This means when you want to sell, you’ll be able to do so quickly and at a price near what the value of the NFT is.

For updates on future Street Fighter NFT releases (Series 3, Series 4, Series 5?) follow WAX’s Twitter account. You can see updates for all the other awesome NFTs coming out on the platform, too. If you like Street Fighter, chances are you’re going to find other stuff you think is neat, too.

WAX has some good brands in its repertoire for NFTs, including Atari, Mattel, Street Fighter, William Shatner, Weezer, Topps and DeadMau5.

WAX also hosts blockchain-based gaming, where you can play to earn. WAX also hosts a developer platform for any developers looking to launch their projects on the WAX platform.

The Street Fighter NFTs

To get some basic info on Street Fighter NFTs head over to StreetFighter.Cards. All the packs of cards are already sold out but you can easily purchase some if you go to the WAX site and check out their inventory. The price floor for most characters is $1-$10, with prices getting much higher than that.

One small red flag I’m seeing right now is that market activity has really died off since the collectibles were released in summer 2021.

However, this is the nature of NFTs. A collection will be hot, then have a quiet period, and might get really hot again. The NFT investing community has a tendency to move on to what the next big thing to FOMO into is going to be. Don’t be one of these people. Buy because you like the NFT, and be ready to hold it through the quiet periods.
If cryptocurrency investing is a crapshoot, then buying and selling NFTs is absolute chaos. The good news with this is that there are fewer people in the space. So it’s going to grow faster. There are going to be larger market inefficiencies that you’ll be able to exploit.

Creating new cards that have more rarity

This involves buying multiple build cards and then combining them to make a new card that has more rare features and is thus more valuable. From WAX’s website:

Start by opening packs of Build Cards, then combine two matching Build Cards to unlock a new card with one of six rarities. Continue upgrading that card’s power score by adding additional Build Cards. Once you reach a power score of five, you unlock a special Class Card in one of 6 rarities. Build cards are burned when used, which increases card scarcity and value. Because Street Fighter NFTs are built using WAX Blockchain technology, you can not only buy and sell digital Street Fighter trading cards on a number of marketplaces – you can also instantly trade cards from your collection. The WAX Blockchain ensures your Street Fighter collectible is 100% verifiable as authentic and can never be changed or duplicated. All you need is a WAX Cloud Wallet account to get started.

Happy huntings to all of you with your NFT collecting! I encourage you to check out as many NFT collections as you can to see if you can find something that you like. Use a platform like to poke around and see what’s trending. If you get an NFT on the Ethereum blockchain, you can set that NFT as your profile picture on Twitter with a verification badge.
