Why Voyager Crypto
Voyager has a kick-ass mobile UI, and offers a wide range of cryptos within the US. Other exchanges like Binance have limited crypto offerings in the US and certain EU countries, but Voyager Crypto has over 60 different cryptocurrencies commission free. That’s right- while Coinbase, Kraken charge steep fees, and Binance charges smaller fees, Voyager Crypto is commission-free. Voyager also has a smart-router that helps find the best available prices for the cryptos that you want to buy. Robinhood technically also offers commission-free crypto trades, but Robinhood sucks because you can never actually own your coins. Voyager also pays up to 12% annual percentage yield (APY) just for holding a crypto there. So, Voyager offers the best of both worlds when it comes to being a crypto exchange and a crypto platform that you can earn passive income on. Voyager also offers a lot of smaller cap cryptos like Avalanche Coin and others that aren’t available on CoinBase.
Requirements & KYC for Voyager
You do need to be at least 18 years of age and must have not been previously suspended from Voyager to make an account. While Voyager does have a Know Your Customer (KYC) verification process, I’ve found it to be far less of a pain in the ass as Coinbase’s and Binance’s KYC processes. With this quick step-by-step tutorial you’ll be up and running and buying crypto on Voyager quickly.
How to create a Voyager Crypto account
Since Voyager is a mobile-only based platform, you’ll need to download the Voyager application on either the Apple App Store (for iPhones) or the Google Play Store (for Android devices). Once you’ve filled out your information in the app and create a password, you’ll need to verify your email address. After verifying your email, you’ll have the option to add a payment method- whether it’s a debit card or bank account. Then you’ll be able to purchase or receive crypto from another address.
- Download the Voyager app in App Store or Play Store
Search for the Voyager Crypto app in the App Store or Play Store. Click “Install” and wait for the Voyager app to install. Then click “Open”.
- Sign up & create a login
In the top left corner of the Voyager UI, you’ll see the “Log In” text- click on this text. On the login page, click “sign up”. The app will prompt you to enter your email, and create a srcure enough password. Type in a referral code if you have one. If you’d like to use me as a referral and earn $25 of free Bitcoin with your first $100 deposited, use the code B58192316. Then click “agree to terms and conditions” and “continue.”
- Enter information
Next you’ll need to enter your first and last name, and then your mobile phone number. Click “continue” after each event. You’ll be sent a text verification code (6 digits). Either use your phone’s automatic feature to fill this code in or get it from your text messages, then hit “continue.” Enter your address on the address lines and hit “confirm.” Next enter you date of birth and hit “confirm.” (In US only) Enter your social security number and hit “confirm.
- Verify your email address & KYC
Next you’ll need to verify your email address to proceed with the KYC process. After verifying your email address, the app will ask you to enable your camera to take a picture of yourself- approve this and take a picture of your face. When you’re done with this, take a picture of either your passport or driver’s license to complete the KYC process. Usually, Voyager can verify you within 30 seconds.
- Add a bank account or credit card
Click the person icon in the top left hand side of the screen- this will bring you to your account. Click ‘bank accounts’ and then click ‘add bank account’. Type in the name of your bank in the search bar, and select your bank when it appears. If your bank isn’t listed, you’ll need to get a bank account with one of the approved banks through Plaid. Enter the login credentials you use for your bank’s online portal. The app will ask you to verify your bank account, via email or text. Use either of these methods to verify your account. Once connected, Plaid will ask you which of your accounts with your specific bank (i.e. checking or savings) you’d like to link to Plaid. Choose the account you’d like to link.
- Buy & trade cryptocurrencies
Your bank account is now linked! Once you’re ready to buy some crypto, go to the homepage and either select a crypto or use the search bar to find the cryptocurrency you’d like to purchase. If no funds are available/have been loaded yet by you you’ll need to add some money to your account to buy the coin- the UI will prompt you to add money if you haven’t done so already. Then swipe to buy your crypto!
- Logging back into your account
In order to log back into your Voyager account, you’ll need to enter your email and password and wait for a 2-step verification text message. If you wait to receive the message, both iPhone and Android devices will have the code ready for you on your keypad so you can automatically add it. Thank God for this feature!
While KYC and setting up your Voyager is a long and seemingly complicated process, you’ll be able to reap the benefits of being early to cryptocurrency. Over the next decade, the world will continue to see adoption of cryptocurrencies due to structural inefficiencies in the current monetary system. Voyager has a great UX and makes it easy to stake or lend your coins for passive income.
